Yesterday we held our daughter’s 20th birthday party and I was going to bake my signature cake. Guess what, I failed! I mean how can you fail making a sponge cake? I have made this cake for almost thirty years and only failed once before, needless to say that I was disappointed at myself?
I didn’t want that cake to be put on the table because it looked so sad, but my husband sliced it up and served it anyway. When the party had ended, almost all of my miserable sponge cake was eaten, it was still moist and tasty.
Stories like this remind me of how quick I am to judge myself and how easy it is to get into the self-pity closet. But I think that if I was going to lose my ability to self reflect and not spending time in the self-pity closet from time to time I also would not be able to appreciate all good things I have going for me in my life and stop growing in life and faith.
Today I have reminded myself about my life motto: “Never give up – God will show you a way. In life there is no failures, just things to learn from.”
Next time I feel like spending time in my self-pity closet I will change the sign on the door to prayer closet and use the moment to self reflect through God’s grace and beauty.
Heavenly Father, thank you for another lovely day, hold me close to your heart and show me the way when my heart is filled with worldly things that hinders me to live in Your grace and love. Amen
Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.
