Creative Christianity Exodus 35:35

This article has been re-posted from our old blog and was first published, Mars 8 2016

Them hath He filled with wisdom of heart, to work all manner of work of the engraver and of the skilled workman, and of the embroiderer in blue and in purple, in scarlet and in fine linen, and of the weaver —even of those who do any work and of those who devise skillful work.”

My mom has spools of thread, boxes and yards of all types of fabrics, several sewing machines, and sewing implements of all types in her creative room in her home.

My sister has canvas, paint of oils and watercolors, pastels crayons, and brushes. Her paint area blazes with colors.

My tools are a computer, camera, and online writing spaces.

They create with their hands, and I create with my mind.

We strive to use our art to enhance the lives of our families and friends in a service of creativity, worship, and love.

As Easter nears, my mother creates specialized quilts for a granddaughter about to have her first child.

My sister works on natural paintings of animals of spring.

I write about my changing world of flowers and trees blooming, bringing beauty of colors and attracting bird and bees.

What is the role of the Christian artist but to highlight the beauty and love of Jesus to the world? Just as the craftsmen, engravers, embroiderers and weavers brought beauty to the Temple of God in Jerusalem of the ancient Biblical times, today’s artists answer the call of the Holy Spirit to devise skillful work to honor God and tell the Gospel.

Artist play a special role in the Great Commission of spreading the Gospel. Painters use brush and paint to tell the story of the Last Supper. While, others follow the guidance of the Holy Spirit to share their testimonies of love and Christ’s sacrifice through their depictions of His wonderful creation in sculpture.

Sewers and embroiderers create works that bring warmth and cover.

Writers tell the stories of faith and love of our modern age weaving in Biblical truths. Writers paint their images and stories with language inspired by the Holy Spirit

Creativity is a gift from the Holy Spirit. He fills us with the wisdom of heart to devise and share creative works of worship and love.

What artistic gifts inspire you to spread the love of Christ? Share in the comments.
